"The Inevitable" by Niyoosha Noorani
I saw a bluebird this morning
flying amongst the others
From a distance
it looked the same as the others
But as the birds came closer,
I saw it was different
It didn't fit in with the rest of the birds,
but it was beautiful
And then it flew away from me,
over the red rooftops,
and amidst the mountains
I saw a flower,
the dew of the morning
sitting on its petals ever so gently
And then the sun shone upon it,
and slowly,
the droplets of water fell off the petals
as if performing a graceful dance
I saw something as red as cherry,
or as red as a rose,
or even darker,
The rhythm of it slowly dripping onto the ground
awakened me from my sleep this morning
Before I saw the bluebird
or the flower,
I saw something inevitable
I saw death
flying amongst the others
From a distance
it looked the same as the others
But as the birds came closer,
I saw it was different
It didn't fit in with the rest of the birds,
but it was beautiful
And then it flew away from me,
over the red rooftops,
and amidst the mountains
I saw a flower,
the dew of the morning
sitting on its petals ever so gently
And then the sun shone upon it,
and slowly,
the droplets of water fell off the petals
as if performing a graceful dance
I saw something as red as cherry,
or as red as a rose,
or even darker,
The rhythm of it slowly dripping onto the ground
awakened me from my sleep this morning
Before I saw the bluebird
or the flower,
I saw something inevitable
I saw death
