For Cutie, An Old Stuffed Animal

For Cutie, An Old Stuffed Animal - Pooja Verma.jpeg

From the Artist:

We all have our favorite childhood stuffed animals, and inevitably, they grow worn out and grayer as we grow older. It's as if our maturity reflects a loss of childhood innocence and bliss; something we rarely acknowledge. My work is a personal ode to my childhood best friend, a stuffed lemur I named cutie. Over the years, her fur grew matted, her eyes all blurry. I wanted to glorify her, one last time, by depicting her as an embodiment of so many greater problems. She stands alone on a stage, as if part of some demented show and tell, her eyes green with envy. The work reflects not just Cutie, but is metaphorically an Ode to all that gets left behind, all that society finds too painful to truly come to terms with.
