Patched Together

Patched Together - Jennifer Li.JPG

From the Artist:

Patched Together is an ode to the modern microtrend cycles of fast fashion. It pictures myself (watercolor) embracing a new pair of Adidas Spezials (crocheted yarn and fabric), the hottest new sneaker trend. Behind me is a collage of used fabrics and rags stitched together, representing the lost art of patching together a unique identity through the use of already existing items in our possession. This piece tells a story of the influence of social media, causing individuals (especially teenagers) to grasp on to the newest trendy item instead of developing our tastes and identities organically.
